The mission of Nugent House School is to provide a high quality, integrated education, care and therapeutic environment where young people with behavioural and social difficulties are enabled to achieve their full potential. Nugent House is an ambitious school and aspires to be the best school for boys with additional needs in the country and to be rated as Ofsted Outstanding. We are now seeking to recruit a new Principal to take the school forward to new heights with energy and a shared sense of direction across the whole team.


Nugent House School is part of Nugent Care, a multi service agency and one of the leading charities of the North West. In the past few years there has been considerable investment in the school which now enjoys excellent residential and education facilities. The school has a long history of excellence and has a well established day, 38 and 52 week residential provision. We also have a professional led therapeutic service and strive to improve outcomes for the boys we care for.


We are seeking to appoint a strong communicative leader with a proven track record in the field of Special Education and residential care to drive the school forward. You will need to be:

  • in residence within 40 miles/one hours drive of the school - a relocation package of up to £7k is provided to support this.

  • a resourceful Principal/ Deputy to actively lead the school and build on its achievements

  • a Headteacher/Deputy, either qualified or currently completing the NQPH, who can provide leadership together with strategic management experience, inspiration and imagination

  • someone with a vision to continually develop the school and provide a stimulating learning and care environment to bring out the best in every student, whatever the specific challenges their needs may pose and prepare them for a successful future

  • able to continue to forge strong professional relationships with staff, Governors, parents and the community as well as local authorities and other strategic partners

  • someone with excellent management qualities and a strategic thinker who will embrace our values and ethos, thrive on responsibility and challenge, and communicate our good work to external partners

  • a professional with a broad experience and ideally sound current knowledge of multi-disciplinary working, special education, special schools and residential care

  • Someone with a powerful sense of purpose, who works to clear standards, develops their team and nurtures excellence.
